Sebastian Berger

Even though I am the publisher of this site, I would of course like to introduce myself as an artist. in the following text you will learn more about me and my creative work.

Who am I?

Sebastian Berger, photographer
My name is Sebastian Berger, born in 1982 in the beautiful state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.
After many journeys and experiences as a media designer and insurance and finance specialist, I finally ended up in Hanover as a digital officer at the beginning of 2016. At the end of 2016 I finally lost my heart to photography and live it until today. As a born digital native, I am just additionally finding my way back to the analog roots. I like irony, sarcasm and cats.

How I came to the NFT space

2020 was a difficult year for many. I was among the lucky ones who stayed healthy and had a great, secure job.

Creatively, however, the year was difficult for me. I felt burned out. Every day was the same. Photography was difficult because of the contact restrictions and it didn't appeal to me either.
At the beginning of 2021, the term NFT came up for me for the first time. Since I have been involved with cryptocurrencies since 2016, I became curious about the potential that the topic offers technically and creatively.
And there it was again, the appeal of discovering something, exploring the potential and creating something.
For me, NFTs give digital photography, which has become increasingly devalued over the decades, back the value it deserves. Since I started with it, my head is full of new ideas for implementations and old methods to bring together with modern technology.I also see many opportunities to take responsibility and with increasing visibility to use this for social issues.

How I see the future of NFTs

I think we are just beginning to scratch the surface of the possibilities that NFTs offer us.
Whether it's experiments like DAOs, digital properties, or simply new forms of art, the world suddenly has completely new avenues open to it.
For me personally, I see the whole topic as a huge opportunity for positioning and self-realization. But I also see an infinite number of opportunities to make a positive difference.
Success in the NFT art world is definitely a marathon, not a sprint, and that's how I try to live it.

The wave - by Sebastian Berger

Which artists inspire me

I like the old masters like Rembrandt, da Vinci, Caspar David Friedrich with their outstanding understanding of light, composition and dramaturgy.
But also new masters like Vincent Peters, Sven Marquardt or Szymon Brodziak are great sources to learn and develop.
I never focus on one medium. Today a photograph inspires me, tomorrow a singer, and next week an architectural design. I record everything that stimulates me creatively.
My Mission is to learn something new every day and to get a little bit better at what I do and to use every day to make someone else's life a little bit better.

What characterizes my work

I photograph generally unbound, so that you can find work from the fields of animal, street, landscape from me. My heart and my focus, however, belongs to people photography.
The classic portrait, but also editorials and business photography are the topics I love to photograph.
Even though I discovered my love for analog photography, the technique is secondary. When I photograph people, the project consists of 20% technique and 80% communication.
I also believe that when the photographer has reached a minimum level of skill, the technique used becomes third. Heart, mind and eye create the photography.
I just like to get to know people, to take away their doubts and tension in front of the camera and to show as much of their character as possible.
In the post-processing I see my responsibility in defusing the ruthlessness of the digital photo so that the person becomes visible.

Which artist do you want to promote?

I want to promote Stefan Große Halbuer. Stefan's work is characterized by an extremely memorable style and looks simply great. Apart from that he always has an open ear for questions and is just very likeable. I think more people should get to know him as an artist and a person!
